What to tell the kids

I'm not telling my kids anything until I actually see a war. There is still a chance that Saddam will come clean and get rid of his weapons.

Personally, I think that much of this is posturing to re-establish our credibility which was destroyed in the Clinton years. If Bubba would've acted in 1998 we could have avoided much of this.

There is no \"sense\" to be made of war, even if you feel it's the best course at the time.  It's not glorious or good or graceful.  No sense.

But, all you can say about your child's safety re: war, is the same you can say about home-invasion robberies, car-jackings, terrorist attacks, school shootings, drive-bys, wandering rabid dogs attacking, drunken drivers...

There is no \"safety\".  The world is fallen, beautiful as it even still is, it's fallen far from what God woudl have liked it to be by now.

All we can do all day every day is put ourselves in God's hands.  We can be prudent good stewards, we can have normal caution and precaution in all sorts of areas of life.  We have God's promises about never leaving us, we have Scriptural examples about God being with people through their troubles.

I think most children take on their parents' estimation of how safe they are and how prepared for loss.

Whether we believe war with Iraq to be necessary or not, it appears that it is coming.

What do you tell your kids about their safety?  The reasons for the conflict?  The innocents that will be harmed?  The likelihood of another 9-11?  God's presense in the whole mess?

I heard on NPR today that much of the top brass in Wasington don't want war, but this administration does not take advice from the military, it would rather give it.
