It's that time again.

Our boys scrimmaged last week-end.  They looked pretty good.   We're in a new district this year and not picked to do all that well,  but the coach usually gets a lot out of the boys, so I think it'll be alright.

Last year we went three deep in the play-offs.     I don't know if we'll do any better this year or not.

How does everybody else's team look?

Brand new school, here.  The Lincoln County High Panthers begin play Friday night against Spring Valley.  No one has high hopes, because this is a school consolidated from 4 class A (smallest level) schools now playing in class AAA (largest level).  And the players aren't very big.

Spring Valley was the worst AAA team in the state last year, though, and the schedule won't go completely AAA until next year so, like the coach said on TV the other night, they might win one or two games this year.

Our school has won one game in the last two years.  Almost anything will be an improvement.

Our team lost something like 21 starters.  They won their first game something like 26-22, but I don't know if mother-son games count in the official records.

Weeble

We played our Jamboree game last night and won 30 to 8. But that was against the Alabama school for the blind so maybe we can get one more this year.

Now that all my kids are in college, I haven't been paying attention.  Guess I'll have to read up on 'em.

boringoldguy

Well,  my team took a real thumping in their first game.
But it's not district.   Maybe things'll get better.

Weeble

Amazingly we won last night 26 to 3.  So maybe we will win three this year.

They started off like they ended last season.  They lost 53-23.

Our high school football team (Go Jags) played our district rival. It's called Moore War. Over 15,000 fans at the game. The game went into overtime, at 21 each. We scored a touchdown and extra point. Then they scored a touchdown, but failed at the 2 pointer!!! The Jags won 28-27!!

Our Lions don't open until Friday, the 8th, with a home game.  A new coach last year went something like 2 and 500, and there are only eight players back from last year, so it doesn't look like a promising year.

Sometimes with a team like that,  it's good if you don't have a lot of returnees.    If they get into the habit of losing,  it can be hard to break.

You're right, BOG.  I've noticed with teens that, when an adult leader leaves, be he coach, scoutmaster, band director, youth minister, or whatever, the existing group of teens don't believe the new guy is any good, because he's not the old guy.  He pretty much has to start over.  I think we're dealing with that here.

Of course, adults can be that way, too.

Sounds like the Army of the Potomac after McClellan.

Bon Voyage

Men are clinging to football on a level we aren't even aware of.  For centuries, we ruled everything, and now, in the last ten minutes, there are all these incursions by women.  It's our Alamo.  ~Tony Kornheiser

Gridiron gal takes the field.

So much for your theory of football as the last male outpost.  This school is about three blocks from our church building.  The girl is the mayor's daughter, which probably kept her from getting dismissed out of hand.

Besides, I prefer baseball.  My wife is a much bigger football fan than I.

marc

We've had several girls play midget league football around here, but with the new consolidated high school, soccer's taking off at all levels, and I know at least one girl who's played football before who's turning that direction, now.  I imagine others will, too.

btw, have you seen the video of the parent levelling the 13-year-old kid who hit his kid at the football game?  I don't imagine that's as rare as the broadcasters are saying it is, from what I've seen of football parents.

19-6 for our Lions in their opener, and the opponents score happened in the first five minuts.  We now know for certain that they won't have a perfect season of losses.

The football team from my daughter's (5A Texas) high school locked up their district championship with their win tonight.  Hooray!!!

marc

The school that I'm teaching in now played in the state soccer championship today.  I haven't heard the results.

No soccer players in my classes, though.  A football player and a cheerleader, but no soccer players.

Lincoln (5-3, 3-0 San Joaquin Athletic Association) clinched a playoff spot and will host Tracy (6-2, 3-0) 7:30 p.m. on Friday for the league championship.  Doesn't look pretty, but they're one of the best teams in California.  Of course they were better when I was in High School.

In Texas, high school football is practically a religion.  With one game remaining in the regular season, our team is undefeated in a tough district and we're not anything near the best team in the region.   We'll face killer competition in the playoffs.

Edited to read:  We won our last game - so we are undefeated in district!  For the first time in more than a decade, our district has an undisputed, untied champion - us!  Yay!

I'm proud of our guys!
