There is a great deal of advantages with live chat over static forums, it makes a very good addition to any board and is easily integrated.  Here is one that's remotely hosted, you just copy and paste the code and you have a new live chat section.  http://www.freeshoutbox.net/

Lee was looking into chat -- I don't remember if he didn't run with it because he never found a set-up he liked, or if we felt that we regulars were too few at too many wide-spread times to make it worthwhile.

I enjoy live chat, when I have time for it.  It's also a good way to set up meetings.

How can you tell if anyone is on?  I generally don't do 'chat', but the ones I've used before have some kind of indicator to show when people are signed in.

It's just a remotely hosted chat room, so not alot of features, I'll try to keep chiming in, these are really cool once they get used.

We've been looking into some chatbox type options that would place the chatbox at the top of the forum. The problem is that it takes heavy moderation to keep trolls and pests from overrunning it. There are some additional features that keep that from happening and we're looking into that as well.

You wouldn't need heavy mods, just make it so only registered members can us it. Or maybe registered members with a certian post count might work too.

Until it catches on, maybe you can post here and state a specific time during the day or evening when everyone can meet to instant chat.  Just a suggestion.

This particular script, you can assign an unlimited amount of moderators, they can see the IP addresses, of which cn be banned through the admin control panel, and can immediately delete offensive messages.  If you have enough of them spread out during different time zones, it shouldn't be too bad.  I already put zooance in that slot, just to show how that feature works.

It's an easy install, they give you the code to cut and paste.  I do reccomend putting it at the bottom of the page though, it seems to fit in best at that spot on my own board, and doesn't clutter up the main page.  If it's showing up on these pages, I gaurantee it's going to get used, on other boards where you have to click through to find it, it tends not to get used as much.  Also, keep in mind, this is just some ez, freebee script, there are many more out there that will do a far better job, I just threw this one out there due to it's simplicity and is a good way to go to test the waters before spending time and resources on something more robust.
