Has anyone read these books(book of Jasher/Enoch) and if so what did you think?

The Bible mentions both of them. You can down load them for free on the internet.

Interesting to see this question. Last week in Bible class someone asked me if I knew anything about the book of Jasher.  I said no, but told them what I know (not much) about the book of Enoch, even though they didn't ask.

Enoch was probably written between 150-80 BC. Jude quotes from Enoch (Jude 14, 15) and possibly another apocryphal pseudepigraphal text called "The Testament of Moses" (Jude 9). I Peter 3:19-20 may also quote from Enoch 6-36. However both Judaism and Christianity ultimately rejected Enoch (though the Ethiopian Orthodox Church regards it as canonical) as non-canonical.

Wasn't there another thread on Enoch here somewhere last week?

Wouldn't you think if the Bible mentions them...they must have information that might open up scriptures a little clearer. ::shrug::

Sure. I think all Christians should be familiar with these scriptures that Jesus would've been familiar with.

i would be very careful about saying the Bible quoted from any source as that opens God, the Biblical writers up to charges that the whole volume was adapted or copied from other sources.

having dealt with many atheists, archaeologists, biblical scholars and mythologists, this charge is very real and is used to declare the Bible false and gives them an excuse to dismiss its words.

enoch has a wide authorship date, anywhere from 200 b.c. to 50 a.d. but keep in mind that such a parameter is very loosely applied.  enoch is rejected because it does not fit with the message of the Bible and was not written by an apostle or someone who worked with an apostle.

whne it came time for the canon to be formed, NOT 1 gnostive, apocryphal or psuedigraphical work was even nominated for inclusions which gives you the idea that the people constructing the canon had a really goodidea what was true and what was false.
