How come some user names are blacked out?

Is there a way to privatize our profiles so that no one can click on us?

Blacked out names are those who have been banned or those who have quit the forum and deleted their account.

You can set your email to private - so it can't be seen if someone clicks your name; and you can "hide" your status - that means you won't show up in the list of users online at the bottom of the page.  These changes can be made in "account settings" in your profile.

But no - you can't hide your profile so that it can't be clicked on.
