Hey Guys, I love your site!
I am new Christian and was just hoping I could get some senior Christians perspectives on something I'm praying at the moment. As I said ive recently become a Christian (about 5 months ago), and I'm confident I've got a new heart, new desires and a serious attitude to discipleship (hallelujah!), I've been blessed with tremendous joy and passion for Christ!

When I became a Christian I felt I had to sacrifice a few things, including a relationship with a non-Christian that I love and had been with for almost six years. Obviously just because it's over doesn't stop me from loving Her, wanting good Godly things for Her, and frankly being concerned for her eternal destination! She's actually currently working as a glamour model, I'm not sure if you use that term outside of the U.k ... but trust me don't Google it! I'm conscious that that industries extremely deceptive and abusive to women like her, and I'm hoping God can help her out as he did me.

I'm praying that the Holy Spirit might convict Her of Her sin, that she might turn away from it, and that Christ might reveal the Father to Her. Which altogether I regard as a good desire? I'm also praying that She might have good things from God: A church that loves Her, a Christian husband/Bf who'll take care of Her, etc. This is where it gets controversial because I'm really hoping (you probs saw this coming) that God might make me that Bf/husband again. I'm convinced I really love this woman, I just love Jesus more. But I do want to be there to watch Her grow and flourish in Her faith, and I want to build Her up and encourage Her, we had an unbelievably lovely bond when we were together. Several verses come to mind Psalm 37:4 about God fulfilling desires and Psalm 84:11 about God sparing no good thing from us.

I'm aware however that I'm asking God for some good things, but also for someone who is at the moment a non believer, hence I'm worried about: Psalm 66:18 - "If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened". I presume its a sin to have feelings for a non-Christian, when God expressly forbids relations in His word? I really really do not want to let God down!

Basically I'm hoping for your perspective on what I'm praying for and wondering if I should persist and/or change anything? I'm a grown lad and am genuinely open to a Paul-style rebuke, and being told I've got desires that aren't at all worshipful!

I'm super grateful for your time and thought all!
God Bless,
Mike.

Hi Mike and it's great to have you with us. As far as having feelings for a non-Christian, God so loved the world He gave His Son Jesus for such people, including you and me.

Concerning our relationships or Godly courtship, you might read the following threads I posted at the link below addressing such questions you pose. God bless you in Jesus' name.

Hi and welcome Mike ! :-)

Its great to hear how God is working in your life and how he has saved you ! wonderful.

I would like to humbly offer a perspective on your issue, as a guy and as a Christian brother. My thought is that men often lead spiritually (no sexism intended, just stating an observation of what happens) and a wife frequently follows her husband into the kingdom. Wives sometimes lead the way too. Perhaps that would happen with you guys...she opening her heart to Jesus in response to his mighty work in your life. You are not married but there is a principle here still.

I don't think there is anything wrong in you longing for her to come to know Jesus and in hoping to be with her, it is not sin, you are bound to feel like that after so long together. Let God shine out of you to everyone including her, and pray that she has the same life changing meeting with God as you. Be a friend to her if you can, but guard those boundaries God calls us to.

One thing I do feel sure about...marriage to a non-Christian is pretty awful unless you want to be totally nominal and spiritually asleep. You know this and have done well to act upon it. Happiness will evade you should you get back with her without her coming to know God. Hold her in your heart lightly. Who knows what may happen.

Storm

(1 Corinthians 7:10-17) explains that(if married) to stay with that person if they are not a Christian because with you being a Christian you may save them, basically not wanting you to divorce, and i realize you are not married to this woman but it was something to throw out there.. I dont see why you could not be the one to guide her to Christ. The Lord wants us to minister to others. I dont see where you are doing anything wrong...and I think what you are feeling is normal and not necessarily a sin.  ::smile::

Ben

Born again Christians are forbidden to marry non-Christians, period.  I would tell her that and tell her if she wants to restart a relationship with you it can only be done only after she receives Christ.  If she says no, forget her. If she says yes, I suggest making an appointment with your pastor and give him all the details before you two arrive so he is not caught unawares.

God died for us, because we let him down.  That being said we are all sinners and God is faithful to forgive us when we repent.

We have free will to sin, but be prepared to suffer the consequence of the sin.  Does God punish christian sinners on earth? maybe, probably.  What I do know is that he lets sin take its course, but I do think he does intervene at times.

What do I mean by letting sin take its course?  If a christian robs a house and get caughter, sin will take it course, by putting that person in jail.  If God intervenes and the da or judge drop the charges, that christian still had to suffer while be worred about the judical process.

Is it wrong for you to have feelings for this model, no.  Is it wrong for you to live with her while not being married, yes.  Is it wrong to fornicate with her, yes.

Also, just because someone has been a christian for along time doens't mean they have graduated christian kindergarden.

I would presonally keep praying for her, but at the same time join a good church, social with christians and do God's will in your life.  I'd search for a christian woman and if your ex becomes a christian before you find another woman and she wants you back then great, if not great.
