I am looking for the person who posted a question a while back about the Gadarenes and if they were Jewish.  The city is located today in the state of Jordan, and was originally settled by Greeks after Alexander the Great and later by the Romans.  These were Gentiles living in the land.  A Jew would no longer be considered a Jew if he were raising swine, and would be ostracized by all the House of Judah.  If you see this perhaps it will help you.  Just remember you don't have to be Jewish to live in Israel.

Hi Taylomp and welcome. I'm assuming you probably are aware of the many links to the subject online. I did a search using the word "Gadarenes" on our forums and it didn't produce a result, so it is possible it was a different forum you were on, or that our search mode here is not doing us right.

Inhabitants of Gadara, known from an alleged miracle of Jesus (Matt. viii.; Mark v.; Luke viii.) in which he transferred the demons afflicting a man to a number of swine,
