Gen 6:1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, 2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. 3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. 4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

There were already giants in the earth, that is to say that they were giants compared to us during those days, after which the sons of God went in unto the daughters of men and bare children.

Quote4 Satellites Confirm Khafre Pyramid SAR Scan Discovery of Massive Structures Underground

By Derek Olson

In March of 2025, the "Khafre Research Team," led by Italian scientist Filippo Biondi, shocked the world when they released a report alleging that they had discovered never before seen structures, not only inside the so called Khafre pyramid, but underneath it as well. By using a new technology called synthetic aperture radar (SAR), the most shocking piece of their report were scans and 3D images that revealed eight massive cylindrical like structures that run in pairs and descend down to a depth of about 2000 feet below the Khafre pyramid, and then connect into two colossal squared chambers that measure 260 ft x 260 ft. The vertical shafts extend into these cubic chambers, pass through them, and continue descending thousands more feet where other structures are apparently buried.

Now, four independent satellite companies have confirmed that there are massive buried structures hidden deep underneath the Great Pyramids of Giza. This news comes straight from Filippo Biondi himself, the scientist who developed the SAR satellite topography imaging scanning method for archaeology. Biondi was interviewed recently by Jesse Michaels on the American Alchemy podcast when he stated that four independent satellite operators named Umbra, Capella Space, ICEYE and Cosmo-SkyMed all returned identical raw tomography data showing the same structures buried beneath the pyramids. Biondi stated "All four satellites gave exactly the same results. That is really amazing. We cannot announce anything without these basic scientific methods."

Referring to the supposed buried structures, host Jesse Michaels then asked Biondi "Are you 100% sure it's man-made?" Biondi responded with "100% yes it's man-made... Huge structures are connected to the base of the Khafre pyramid, and these structures are extending underneath for over one kilometer of depth... Like cubes they connect down to huge chambers approximately 80 meters wide and high... The tubes are connected and go inside these chambers... These tubes have a sort of spiral nature, they spiral around themselves going down. Each tube has a core in the center that spirals and descends down."

Biondi also went on to say that "there is an actor that is always present that is related to all these structures, and that is water. When water flows it generates certain information in terms of vibration that is very precise. The pyramids and water are connected together." Jesse asked Biondi "Say a gun was to your head, what do you think is under the Khafre Pyramid?" Biondi responded with "It's hard for me to give you a precise answer because we only know the truth if we go inside the physical earth to check what there is exactly. The final proof is to go inside"

Three of these four satellite companies that Biondi mentions have recently been awarded new contracts by the National Reconnaissance Office. In December 2024, the SAR Journal reported "The National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) has awarded new two-year contracts to three leading providers of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite imagery: Capella Space, ICEYE US, and Umbra. An NRO spokesperson confirmed the contract extensions to Breaking Defense on Wednesday, marking the latest step in the agency's ongoing efforts to leverage commercial radar capabilities emphasizing the agency's continued interest in commercial SAR solutions as critical tools for national security and intelligence gathering."

Piers Morgan recently asked Graham Hancock what he thought about the work of Filippo Biondi, and Graham responded with "I'm fascinated by the work that Filippo Biondi and his team have done... They are coming to this with scientific method... Their method has not been understood by Egyptologists, it's been rejected prematurely without understanding what the method is."

Thanks for posting this.... You are about the only one I have found that shares my interest in such things...

I have often thought to start a thread, but just dont want to be the only person there LOL

My pleasure. There is so much already that simply does not fit present historical or scientific simple to complex models or narratives. Which are basically ignored without any deeper investigations because they do not. I am very sure there is a whole lot more out there, just so few there be that are actually looking for them.

I've been trying to keep an eye on this one, to see what develops supporting it or not. If the global flood account is true, and humanity was intelligent and industrious from the beginning, there should be a lot more evidence than that which has already been found still buried. Although much has reportedly been found in the past which is denied today, while evidence of such seems to have disappeared. Suggesting either a massive coverup or massive amounts of hoaxes being performed by many throughout history.

Still, there is enough existing evidence to make many question the predominant historical and scientific simple to complex narratives.

First new to me at least, video I've seen in a while on this topic.

I would offer from another perspective the focus -- "the reason" for the flood seeing whatever the renown was before it remained after

We know the rainbow sign of that flood parable was the kind of peace without end the color of all the nations of the world.

A dramatic change  Longevity was reduced to 80 years possibly according to psalms' Oxygen levels decreased  . Water which is used to represent the gospel water of the word--- the doctrines that fall like rain according to Deuteronomy 32.

Previously a mist coming up used to represent inspiration of God which included a earthly witness sons of God. Not a cloud in the Sky all of the Suns nutrients.

Daughters of men--- unredeemed mankind being unevenly yoked with sons of God Christians .

The church gave up the privileges of acting as outward recognition of God chosen people . Todays rainbow efect same loving commandment do not be unevenly yoked!!!

From another AI perspective, the flood marks not the removal of corruption but its restraint. What existed before remained after, though under limits. Longevity shortened, creation changed, and judgment was tempered by mercy. Water, which in Scripture represents doctrine, became both a means of judgment and instruction—no longer only inspiration rising like mist, but teaching falling like rain. The rainbow signified peace with boundaries, not perfection. The warning against uneven yoking remained, because the condition of mankind remained.

Today it helps measure those who serve a hierarchy-- venerable form of government of puffed up ones those that lord it over the non-venerable pew warmers ---Just as if like before the flood earthly inspired

The other born again family where sola scriptura remains the source of Christ faith which does work in those yoked with His labor of Love. The warning applies to them "do not be unevenly yoked".

The other cannot respond unless Christ does the first work-- give them ears to hear inspiration from above

A lot of allegory and conjecture regarding that which is simply and directly explained by Holy Scripture itself.

Gen 6:4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. 5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. 7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

Gen 2:4 These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, 5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. 6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.

There was simply a different irrigation system of the world in the original creation. Among many other things which were much more conducive to much more abundant, robust, longer lasting, and larger forms of life. As is evidenced in the fossil and other remains the world over.

Gen 9:9 And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you; 10 And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth. 11 And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. 12 And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: 13 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. 14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: 15 And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. 16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.

2Pe 3:1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: 2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour: 3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. 5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: 6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. 8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, 12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

Etowah's Giants

Etowah's Giants

Nice find.

1. The "sons of God" renown giants of faith superstars born agin beleivers  before the flood

In Book of Genesis we read:
Genesis 6:1–2
"The sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose."

Many interpreters understand the "sons of God" here as the godly line that descended from Seth, while the "daughters of men" represented the ungodly line of Cain.

When the two lines mixed, the spiritual witness was corrupted.
The result was moral collapse:

Genesis 6:5"Every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually."

This ultimately led to the judgment of the flood in the days of Noah.

2. The principle: do not mix light and darkness

The same principle appears later in the New Testament through Paul the Apostle.

In Second Epistle to the Corinthians:

2 Corinthians 6:14"Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?"

The idea is not racial or national separation, but spiritual separation—faith mixed with unbelief weakens the witness of God's people.
________________________________________
3. God's witness after the floodAfter the flood, God gave a visible sign of His covenant:

Genesis 9:13"I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth."
The rainbow became a symbol of God's mercy and peace after judgment.

4. The continuing patternAcross Scripture the pattern repeats:
Before the flood: the sons of God compromised their witness.
Under the Law: Israel was warned not to mix with idolatry.
In the Gospel: believers are told not to be unequally yoked with unbelief.
The central message is that God calls a people to be spiritually faithful, walking in the light rather than mixing truth with error.

The parable of the hidden mana Deuteronomy 32 . The doctrines of Christ falling down like dew -- the dew covers the corrupter earth and set the purified word up in ..

Numbers 11:9 And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it.

The connection between dew, manna, and doctrine is actually a very strong biblical pattern. Scripture itself uses dew as a picture of God's teaching quietly coming from heaven. When you line the passages together, the parable becomes clearer.

1. Doctrine falling like dew

In Book of Deuteronomy 32:2, the song of Moses uses this exact imagery:
"My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew,
as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass."
Here doctrine (teaching from God) is compared to rain and dew—something that comes quietly from heaven and nourishes life on the earth.

2. Dew and the manna in the wilderness

The same pattern appears during Israel's wilderness journey in Book of Numbers:

Numbers 11:9"And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it."

Notice the order:Dew comes first--Manna appears with it---The dew prepares the ground, and the manna—the bread from heaven—appears upon it.

3. The hidden manna
Later Scripture reveals a deeper spiritual meaning. In Book of Revelation 2:17,

Jesus Christ promises: "To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna..."

The manna in the wilderness becomes a parable of spiritual nourishment—the life and teaching that come from Christ.

Jesus Himself said:John 6:35"I am the bread of life."

4. The pattern in the parable When these verses are placed together, the imagery forms a beautiful sequence:

Doctrine from heaven falls like dew (Deuteronomy 32:2).

Dew covers the earth quietly during the night.

Manna appears with the dew (Numbers 11:9).

The manna points to Christ, the true bread from heaven.
So the parable shows that God's teaching prepares the heart, and then Christ Himself becomes the life-giving bread.

5. Why the imagery matters Dew is gentle and unseen while it falls. In the same way:

God's truth often comes quietly rather than by force.

It covers the earth and brings life.

Those who receive it find the hidden manna.

Interesting videos about giants, their disappearing bones, and other evidences associated with them. While the videos speak of a class of giant leaders, I think it more likely that the bones of the giants were the oldest remains found. Of the larger and more intelligent descendants of the antediluvians who originally built the more technical structures found. Their size, knowledge, and know how disappearing over time as humanity and all else devolved. I could see such societies placing their largest members in position of leadership, thinking that their size made them more closely related to, and therefore capable as the giants of their past which they memorialized obviously were.

But that is exactly NOT what the first century Jewish community and the early church believed.  They took the "Sons of God" to mean angels (fallen) and the "daughters of men" to be human women, which resulted in the Nephilim, a hybrid human/angelic strain of creatures.

That was clearly spelled out in late 2nd Temple Jewish writings such as the Books of Enoch and Jubilees.

6:1 When human beings began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. 3 Then the Lord said, "My Spirit will not contend with[a] humans forever, for they are mortal; their days will be a hundred and twenty years." 4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.(NIV)

6:1 When men began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, 2 The sons of God saw that the daughters of men were fair, and they took wives of all they desired and chose. 3 Then the Lord said, My Spirit shall not forever dwell and strive with man, for he also is flesh; but his days shall yet be 120 years. 4 There were giants on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God lived with the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.(AMPC)

6:1 In time, when men began to multiply on earth, and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were attractive; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose. 3 Adonai said, "My Spirit will not live in human beings forever, for they too are flesh; therefore their life span is to be 120 years." 4 The N'filim were on the earth in those days, and also afterwards, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them; these were the ancient heroes, men of renown.(CJB)

The giants were already on the earth, before the sons of God went in unto the daughters of men. Nor would fallen angels be referred to as sons of God. People were much larger at creation than they are now. Just like many historical accounts of their remains have testified, and just like countless finds of much larger plants and animals than we have today are found as well.

Interesting video about discoveries under the Great lakes. Easily ties to the previous three videos I posted last week. Evidence of widespread organized civilization, connected to huge copper mining and therefore no doubt distribution as well. Many of the giant skeletons from the previous videos I posted, had copper jewelry, weapons, or tools in the mounds with them. The Great Lakes of course forming since the flood, and not according to the deep time scenarios of present narratives. Huge copper mines and structural evidences of civilization destroyed by the flood still therefore remaining under these waters.

Thanks, Amo. I'm forwarding this to my oldest grandson who has a job walking power lines in various states. He's been in West Virginia for a week now.

The word Nephilim is often pulled into images of towering giants and monsters, but the text itself places the emphasis elsewhere:

"The Nephilim were on the earth in those days... They were the heroes of old, men of renown." — Genesis 6:4

The focus is not their height, but their renown—their name, their reputation among men.

In that sense, there are two kinds of "renown":

The renown that rises from dying mankind—fame, power, influence, the kind the world celebrates
And the renown that comes from another authority—faith given by God

One builds a name on the earth.
The other receives a name from heaven.

Consider David.
He was not "renowned" in the way the world measures greatness. Yet by faith, he overcame Goliath—the visible champion of earthly renown.

So the contrast stands:

Worldly renown: outward strength, reputation, spectacle
Faithful renown: inward courage, given by God

When believers become unevenly yoked, they mix these two—seeking the world's renown while claiming the faith of Christ. But the two do not share the same source.

That is why the warning matters.

And by the end of the book, there are no giants left to fear—no monsters, no legendary men of old—only those who belong to Christ, and those who followed the name of this world

Another one about mounds and the giants connected with them being destroyed or covered over by construction as cities expanded. I know there were many news articles printed about the discovery of giants bones in our nations history, but I have not had time to check and see if any of the articles these videos refer to, are among them. Need to do that when I have time. Don't want to get duped by fake histories. On the other hand, the historical accounts of such finds, is real. If humanity was here from the beginning as Holy Scripture states, then we were no doubt much larger than we are today, as quite apparently everything else was as well. A truth admitted by all, since the evidence is found everywhere.

The context of the scriptures in Genesis six is not about men of great faith, but rather the wickedness of humanity leading to their destruction. The Sons of God, referring to those of the true faith, diluting and eventually destroying that faith by taking the daughters of men outside of the true faith. Which God also forbade Israel from doing, that it might not lead to the same apostasy and destruction. Nevertheless, they did intermingle as well, with devastating results also.

The Hebrew word for giant we are referring to, is used only three times in the Old Testament. Two of those uses are unquestionably referring to literal giants, in Numbers 13:33. All are of course free to choose whatever meaning they wish, according as they choose too understand the testimonies of scripture our Lord has graciously provided for us.

More about giants and Kentucky coal mines. The video briefly addresses who might want to hide such information. Strangely enough it does not include evolutionists or the evolution supporting Smithsonian, but rather considers religions more likely to be hiding these finds. Even though the Smithsonian is often referenced among those who took over the investigation of many of these sites, never to be heard from again.

As a bible believer, I most certainly would like these histories opened up to all, as they obviously support my views of giants as referred to in Holy Scripture.

Well this is interesting...

"Stories of giants have long hovered at the edge of faith, folklore, and archaeology. Now, a 3,300-year-old Egyptian papyrus is pulling that debate back into the spotlight, raising questions about how much of those ancient accounts might be rooted in real encounters with unusually tall people.

The document, known as Papyrus Anastasi I, has been in the British Museum's collection since the 19th century. Recent attention from the Associates for Biblical Research and coverage in news outlets has revived interest in whether it offers rare non-biblical support for references to giants in the Old Testament.

For most historians, the text is first and foremost a window into how Egyptians viewed the lands of Canaan and the wider Levant. But for those already intrigued by biblical passages about the Nephilim and the "sons of Anak," it has become the latest flashpoint in a long-running argument over where history ends and legend begins.

Papyrus Anastasi I is written as a letter from an Egyptian scribe named Hori, who teases a fellow official for his poor grasp of geography and logistics. The text walks through routes, cities, and hazards across what is now Israel, Lebanon, and Syria, offering a surprisingly detailed picture of the region in the late second millennium BCE.

In one passage, the writer warns about a narrow mountain defile "infested with Shosu concealed beneath the bushes," describing some of them as "four cubits or five cubits, from head to foot, fierce of face, their heart is not mild." Modern writers have pointed out that an Egyptian cubit was roughly 20 inches, which would place these Shosu warriors somewhere between about 6-foot-8 and 8-foot-6 in height—far taller than the average person of the time.

That detail has caught the attention of researchers interested in biblical giants. Articles highlighting the papyrus note its overlap with passages like Numbers 13:33, where Israelite scouts describe feeling like "grasshoppers" next to the sons of Anak, and Genesis 6, which mentions the enigmatic Nephilim. For some readers, a New Kingdom scribe describing towering Shosu fighters sounds like a real-world echo of those stories...."

More about giants, these ones in Sardinia. Eye witness accounts. Interesting connections to Papal involvement in cover ups, and connections to the occult also.

Suggestions as well, regarding religious rites and ceremonies of post flood peoples connected to their high regard and or worship of the antediluvian remains they no doubt found and built upon. As I have surmized in previous posts.

The Hebrew word often discussed in passages about the pre-flood world is debated and it is wise to be careful before turning uncertain terms into sensational claims.

Some translations use "giants," but the underlying language has been understood in different ways by scholars—mighty ones, warriors, men of renown, famous men, or powerful figures. So it is not as simple as saying the text clearly teaches mythical giants.

Genesis 6 uses language many understand as describing violent or renowned people in a corrupt age rather than fantasy creatures.

That is an important safeguard: Scripture should interpret Scripture, and unclear words should not become foundations for elaborate theories.

Throughout history people have built myths around bones, ruins, ancient monuments, and legends. Human imagination often fills gaps with stories of giants, demigods, hidden races, or secret powers. That tendency still exists today.

The real biblical emphasis in those passages is not spectacle, but moral corruption, violence, and judgment before the flood.

So a careful response would be:

The word is debated, not certain proof of mythical giants.

"Men of renown" or mighty men is a legitimate reading.

Sensational legends often go beyond what Scripture says.

The main lesson is human corruption and God's judgment, not monster lore.

Truth usually grows stronger when we resist exaggeration.

As one who is on the side of giants having been I see no exaggeration in the archeological digging of several locations that have turned up oversized structures that have either been made by man , or ET delayed going home.

So we dont want to talk about giants because of The Hebrew word often discussed in passages about the pre-flood world is debated and it is wise to be careful before turning uncertain terms into sensational claims.

Perhaps the bible account should be rewritten to say David slew a man taller then he was. That should be safe....

Yes... "many now discount what was written in Genesis 1 and 2." So let us just sever anything in the word that happened until the flood waters receded and mark it as the allegorical section of the bible and be done with it because we cannot prove what we will not believe in to be right or wrong according to personal beliefs.

But at to Giants..... And after the flood.

We do have King OG

King Og is mentioned in several books of the Bible, including Numbers, Deuteronomy, and Joshua. He was the king of Bashan, known for his great height and strength, and is notably described in Deuteronomy 3:11 as the last of the Rephaim, a group of giants.

Was he real, or do they call him a giant merely because of the size of his bed?

There are many reasons for a large bed.

Perhaps he took multiple partners to bed with him at night.

Perhaps he had incontinence and therefore to not need to change bedding at night he had the space to move around to avoid unpleasantness.

Oh I know... you doubt King Og ever existed.... just know this that Psalm 18:29- 31 says......29For in You I can charge an army, and with my God I can scale a wall. 30As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him. 31For who is God besides the LORD? And who is the Rock except our God?...

Osco Indian Mound Auburn, NY

A Mound, of extraordinary dimensions, has been recently discovered & opened in the southeast part of this county. It is about fifty feet in length and eighteen in breadth at one extremity, and gradually terminating to a complete point at the other. Within this space large quantities of human bones have been dug up, apparently of all ages. Some of the skull bones are very large, and one thigh bone in particular is said to be much too large for the present race of men. The bodies appear to have been thrown in without any order or regularity, as the bones are found cross-wise and in every form. No relics of utensils or implements have been found with them, and whether they were the victims of a battle, or from what cause they were disposed of in this manner, we pretend not to say, but from the works in the vicinity of the mound resembling fortifications, we should judge that to have been the case. Large trees have grown directly over the mound, and the bones on being exposed to the air soon become calcareous. After giving this statement, we leave it to the curious, and those better skilled on this subject, to make such speculations as these facts render deductible.(A large number of human bones in the last stage of decay, were lately found in the town of Nunda — Allegany Co. — promiscuously covered over in a field; near which, on the top of a hill, were the remains of an old fort, inaccessible on every side but one, which appears to have been the work of a civilized people; but tradition even does not point to the time about which it was erected.)

Indian Mound At Fort Hill, NY

Circleville, O., Aug. 20.

Our Antiquities. — A few days since while some mechanics were digging near the north west corner of the "square fort" in this place, they came to a strata of earth, differing in quality and color from that which composed the wall generally — on which reposed the skeleton of a human being which had probably been mouldering there for centuries. The skeleton was discovered about ten feet from the summit of the wall, and four from its base, or common level of the adjacent earth. The bones are said by those who first discovered them, to have extended nine or ten feet, from head to foot! They immediately crumbled on exposure to the air. The wall is composed of clay, which is readily converted into bricks — for which purpose it is rapidly disappearing before the devouring hand of man. The layer of earth on which the skeleton was found, was composed of dark fine sand, much resembling alluvial soil; it extended three or four rods in length, and is totally unfit for the purposes for which the remainder of the wall is using. — Olive Branch.

LITERARY.

Indian Antiquities. — The following account, which we take from the Western Gazetteer, adds something to our former knowledge of those hitherto inexplicable wonders, that are found in such abundance in our western country. We have not room to examine any of the speculations, which have entered the heads of our philosophers and antiquarians on the subject; and if we had, we should hardly expect, where all is conjecture and uncertainty, to afford much amusement or profit to our readers. There is something, however, extremely curious in the inquiry itself; although we cannot hope, that any very important or certain results can be drawn from the few facts, which have as yet been given to the world. We can safely infer from them nothing more, than that this immense tract of country, which has every mark of having been for centuries past a desolate wilderness, has been thickly inhabited at some former period by a warlike people, who had made much greater advances in the arts of civilized life, than any of the aboriginal inhabitants of North America, who have been. known since its discovery by Europeans. The mounds described below are situated in the town ot Harrison, Indiana Territory. 'We examined from 15 to 20. In some, whose heights was from ten to fifteen feet, we could not find more than four or five skeletons. In one, not the least appearance of a human bone was to be found. Others were so full of bones, as to warrant the belief, that they originally contained at least one hundred dead bodies; children of different ages, and the full grown, appeared to have been piled together promiscuously. We found several scull, leg and thigh hones, which plainly indicated that their possessors were men of gigantic stature. The scull of one skeleton was one fourth of an inch thick; and the teeth remarkably even, sound and handsome, all firmly planted. The fore teeth were very deep, and not so wide as those of the generality of white people. Indeed, there seemed a great degree of regularity in the form of the teeth, in all the mounds. In the progress of our researches, we obtained ample testimony, that these masses of the earth were formed by a savage people. Yet, doubtless possessing a greater degree of civilization than the present race of Indians. We discovered a piece of glass weighing five ounces, resembling the bottom of a tumbler, but concave; several stone axes, with grooves near their heads to receive a withe, which unquestionably served as a helve; arrows formed from flint, almost exactly similar to those in use among the present Indians; several pieces of earthen ware; some appeared to be parts of vessels holding six or eight gallons; others were obviously fragments of jugs, jars, and cups: some were plain, while others were curiously ornamented with figures of birds and beasts, drawn while the clay or material of which they were made was soft, and before the process of glazing was performed. The small vessels were made of pounded or pulverized muscle shells, mixed with an earthen or flinty substance, and the large ones of clay and sand. There was no appearance of iron; one of the sculls was found pierced by an arrow, which was still sticking in it, driven about half way through before its force was spent. It was about six inches long. The subjects of this mound were doubtless killed in battle, and hastily buried. In digging to the bottom of them we invariably came to a stratum of ashes, from six inches to two feet thick, which rests on the original earth. These ashes contain coals, fragments of brands, and pieces of calcined bones. From the quantity of ashes and bones, and the appearance of the earth underneath, it is evident that large fires must have been kept burning for several days previous to commencing the mound.

Almost every building lot in Harrison village contains a small mound; and some as many as three. On the neighboring hills, northeast of the town, is a number of the remains of stone houses. They were covered with soil, brush, and full grown trees. We cleared away the earth, roots and rubbish from one of them, and found it to have been anciently occupied as a dwelling. It was about twelve feet square; the walls had fallen nearly to the foundation. They appeared to have been built of rough stone, like our stone walls. Not the least trace of any iron tools have been employed to smooth the face of them, could be perceived. At one end of the building, we came to a regular hearth, containing ashes and coals; before which we found the bones of eight persons of different ages, from a small child to the heads of the family. The positions of their skeletons clearly indicated, that their deaths were sudden and simultaneous. They were probably asleep, with their feet towards the fire, when destroyed by an enemy, an earthquake, or pestilence."

AMERICAN  ANTIQUITIES.

To the editors of the Louisiana Republican.

Gentlemen: —
In the course of my observation & travels through several parts of the United States, I have kept minutes of the most remarkable events which have occurred under my own observation, extracts from which I design, occasionally, to submit to you, and if you think them worthy of insertion in your useful paper, you are at liberty to use them accordingly.

All accounts extant, relative to the size of the ancient settlers of our country, agree that this race of beings must have been larger than the present; but none that I have seen give any evidence of this fact. From my own observation, I have evidence at least of one person of gigantic stature.

In the year 1810, I opened, with several other persons who accompanied me for the purpose, one of the flat mounds common in the western country. It was built of regular layers of flat stones, and covered lightly with earth. This was 4 miles west of the town of Worthington, in Ohio, and within a few rods of the banks of the river Scioto. — In this mound we found the skeletons of a number of bodies, some of a very large size, they were deposited directly due east and west, the heads to the west; precisely as is the practice in Christian burials.

After several hours fatigue in opening & examining this mound, we retired to a house of a Mr. Miller, about 200 yards from the spot, who informed us that he had taken a skeleton from the mound adjoining the one we had examined, which was supposed to be, when living, a man of at least 7 feet 4 inches. He stated that such was the opinion of all who had seen the bones in his possession — that the bone of the leg, which had lost a little at each end, was then longer than the bone of the tallest man in the settlement, measuring from the heel to the cap of the knee.

Mr. Miller stated that he had also in his possession, the jaw bone of this skeleton, which he said, would cover loosely the face of any of his neighbors; and that, when he found the skeleton, he picked from one of the joints of the neck bone, (which was also much larger than any he had seen before,) a stone arrow point; from which circumstances, it was thought his death had been occasioned. I made many inquiries of Mr. Miller, who seemed to be a very intelligent man. He informed me that he had been living at his residence on the Scioto, for many years; — that when he first settled there, he was told by all the old Indians that these mounds existed at a period beyond the recollection of the oldest of them, and that the tribe of Indians before them could give no account of the mounds, other than that they were burying places before they inhabited the country.

From these circumstances, together with some others, which have come under my observation, I have been of opinion, that the bones frequently found in these mounds, must have been the skeletons of a race of beings inhabiting the country, of whom the Indians had no knowledge. The most remarkable circumstance stated by Mr. Miller was, that when ploughing his field, he traced plainly the remains of an ancient building in the form of a house, as there was a manifest difference in the appearance of the earth; and pointing at the same time to the hearth stone in his fire-place, he observed "the hearth-stone which you see there, I took myself from the place where I suppose the fire-place was in the ancient building of which I speak." The Indians, he added, gave him the same account of the appearance of this old building as they had of the mounds; that it existed before their time. During the war, and while on my way to Detroit, I intended calling on Mr. Miller, for more particular information, but upon my arrival at Worthington, I learned that he was dead.

Every information tending to prove the existence of a vast ancient population of any part of our country, ought to be preserved — but few persons can or will afford to spend time and money to the attainment of such an object. I have occasionally noted what had passed under my observation since the year 1807 in the western country; and, as I find leisure, will transmit them to you to be filed away through the medium of your paper, till better proof can be obtained of the existence of a vast ancient population of our country.

It would, in my opinion, be a very laudable act in the general government to encourage or authorize some competent person to collect the most important facts in relation to this subject. And the present state of profound peace and tranquility of our country is, perhaps as favorable as any other in the history of our national affairs for such an undertaking.
A TRAVELLER.

Note 1: This article was also reprinted in the Oct. 30, 1822 issue of the Palmyra Herald and Canal Advertiser, along with an article on Mordecai M. Noah's scheme for a gathering of Israel in America.

Note 2: Early settlers moving into the western country once frequently encountered burial mounds and graves containing the bones of such ancient giants, but evidence of these exceptionally tall and robust Indians is rarely uncovered today. The prevalence of these reports during the 1820s and 1830s lead some Americans to speculate that their land had once been inhabited by a civilized (perhaps white) race of "mighty men of yore." Mormon writers have often pointed out the evidence of these large skeletons as supporting the story of the Jaredites or Nephites in the pre-Columbian Americas. LDS author Phyllis C. Olive, on pages 30-34 of her 2001 book, The Lost Tribes of the Book of Mormon, sets forth her evidence that the Book of Mormon people were not only the "Mound-Builders," but that they were also a "large and mighty nation living in the near vicinity of the Hill Cumorah and throughout the entire mound building region — the giant, Mound Builders so long sought for; a people who bear remarkable similarities to those described in the Book of Mormon." See also the same writer's 1998 book, The Lost Lands of the Book of Mormon, where she expresses the same ideas. The thought does not seem to have occurred to these Mormon writers, that pre-1830 reports of American antiquities could have influenced the writing of the Book of Mormon itself.
