In Fact, as a matter of reference... When John saw and wrote of the Revelation of Christ while on the isle of Patmos... He didn't mention a queen in Heaven at all... nor did He mention Mary as part of the Throne room scene or the judgment or even being any where near anything that was going on with Christ Himself... such as intersession or mediation or giving out graces...

I think this is very pertinent in the FACT that she is not a participant in any of that at all.

I have heard the Roman response to this quite obvious omission from John's letter. They claim that the Ark of God mentioned in Rev 11:19 is Mary. If this isn't twisting the meaning of Scripture till you make it say whatever you want, I don't know what is.

kensington

That is nonsense... The ARK is the ARK and the woman in Heaven is "ISRAEL"... Israel is always termed a woman in the word.  Israel is whom was persecuted and had to be hidden and will be in the times to come. Not Mary... she walked openly on earth.

And that is what happens when you seek after men to lead you who have waxed cold and seek hot after sin rather than Hot after the LORD OF LORDS...

Considering the men of sin who sat upon their throne during the times this silliness was cooked up... I can believe that they believe that.

You seem to ignore that Jesus changed history and culture at the cross

He didnt change it that much. Thats crazy. Would leave your kid with a friend if you were dying, if you had family to leave him with?

The protestant reformers affirmed their belief that Mary, while remaining every-virgin, was truly the Mother of God. Here are only a few examples:

Martin Luther (1483-1546), On the Divine Motherhood of Mary, wrote:

In this work whereby she was made the Mother of God, so many and such great good things were given her that no one can grasp them. ... Not only was Mary the mother of him who is born [in Bethlehem], but of him who, before the world, was eternally born of the Father, from a Mother in time and at the same time man and God. (Weimer's The Works of Luther, English translation by Pelikan, Concordia, St. Louis, v. 7, p. 572.)

Luther wrote on the Virginity of Mary:

It is an article of faith that Mary is Mother of the Lord and still a virgin. ... Christ, we believe, came forth from a womb left perfectly intact. (Weimer's The Works of Luther, English translation by Pelikan, Concordia, St. Louis, v. 11, pp. 319-320; v. 6. p. 510.)

The French reformer John Calvin (1509-1564) also held that Mary was the Mother of God.

It cannot be denied that God in choosing and destining Mary to be the Mother of his Son, granted her the highest honor. ... Elizabeth called Mary Mother of the Lord, because the unity of the person in the two natures of Christ was such that she could have said that the mortal man engendered in the womb of Mary as at the same time the eternal God. (Calvini Opera, Corpus Reformatorum, Braunschweig-Berlin, 1863-1900, v. 45, p. 348, 35.)

Calvin also up held the perpetual virginity of Mary, as did the Swiss reformer, Ulrich Zwingli (1484-1531), who wrote:

I firmly believe that Mary, according to the words of the gospel as a pure Virgin brought forth for us the Son of God and in childbirth and after childbirth forever remained a pure, intact Virgin. (Zwingli Opera, Corpus Reformatorum, Berlin, 1905, v. 1, p. 424.)

Yes I would. My husband and I made that choice a long time ago when we appointed our kids guardians in our wills.  Our choices were to let unsaved family or Catholic family raise them, we chose very close friends who were born again believers.

Our children would never be raised by unsaved persons or Catholics... we also told our families at the time we had chosen outside of the blood family.  We wanted our beliefs honored in the raising of them,  or by those who believed like minded.  For that, we had to go outside of the blood family.  To this day, I would not change my choice.

Wow...nice response.  CC has made a very good argument and this is all you have?

Let me get this straight.  When it comes to the perpetual virginity of Mary, the Church Fathers got it wrong.  Even the Protestant Fathers got it wrong.  Close to 80% of the world's Christians have it wrong.  Even the Scriptures support this view of Mary's perpetual virginity ,and therefore I guess the Scriptures got it wrong as well.  But you got it right.  I guess men do have an uncanny knack for being wrong...except for you.  I guess you can call it...Sloanian infallibility.

When did Luther and Calvin get included in the Church Fathers, I thought they were just Christians.

But I would like to respectfully mention I never claimed infallibility, but I simply look to the Scriptures as my Authority not the Church Fathers or other things that you like to group into your "Authoritative conglomerate". So forgive me if that qualifies me to be called "Sloanian infallibility" then I guess brand me.

I guess the thing in this thread that amuses me the most is that Catholics seem to have some reverence for 'Jews' and to think they hold some special out of the ordinary place in God's plan... but they don't..

Other then to be an object lesson that the most stiff necked, arrogant, forgetful and adulterous people on the planet can have God work through them... for me this is great comfort, because if God can work through the worst of us, think of what he can do with those not part of this Jewish Object lesson of total failure.

I have nothing against the Jews... other then realizing why God chose them and set them up as an object lesson to remind us of the blood sacrifice Jesus would have to make for us all.

And as a matter of fact, Jews are now living in a cursed period of their existence... God has called them out as a harlot and has divorced them until at the end of times where he will gather what few remain true to him.

I am not a Jew.. do not want to be a Jew... Adam was not a Jew.. Noah was not a Jew.. and I praise God every day that he saw fit to give me life outside of the lineage of the Jews.. because theirs was the promises of God, he worked miracles for them.. saved them from Pharaoh and made a great nation of them... but they ended up being harlots and cursed by him.

Not really a history I would like to be a part of.. 2000 years of complete and utter failure.

Heck, even God sent his son through them... and they rejected him.

I ain't touchin' that one with a ten foot pole.

I agree, the WORD says the Jews are His chosen people. He proved that over and over again to them. Patience, forgiveness, longsuffering.

He chose to bring His Son through them into this world... "See Revelation 12:1-2) The woman is Israel..

He offered Himself and the forgiveness of sins through His blood first to them, and then to the gentiles. (Not Jews)... anyone who would receive it.

They rejected Him as Savior.  Many still do. I don't believe in the Kingdom of Heaven the redeemed Jew will have any more special reward or place than any one of His others who received Him as LORD.  But, we will all be with Him forever.

But remember, his first followers were Jews. Until gentiles started following Him, the "Nazarenes" were considered another Jewish sect, if only for a short time.

Okay, time to lighten up:

Jesus was walking along one day, when He came upon a group of people surrounding a lady of ill repute. It was obvious that the crowd was preparing to stone her, so Jesus made His now-famous statement, "Let the person who has no sin cast the first stone."

The crowd was shamed and one by one began to turn away. All of a sudden, a lovely little woman made her way through the crowd. Finally getting to the front, she tossed a pebble towards the woman.

Jesus looks over and says, "I really hate it when you do that, Mom."

Ok guys, I got a confirmation from father Raymond, he's going to join our discussion, he's currently doing missionary work in south Africa, I'm sure he'll shed some light on the situation from his perspective.  I'm thrilled he decided to opt in here to join us.

Can you tell us a little about him?

John 1:1

We dialog via. email from time to time, mainly about prayer requests.  Here is his web site, this should explain alot about his view and about himself: http://upholdingtradition.com/

kensington

This has me in a quandrie... For what purpose will it serve to bring in a "Priest" to our discussion.

First of all, He has no biblical authority here, or over any one of us that are not Catholic. And second... if He is just going to post the same tired stuff about this topic that has been here for these days as you have, what is the point?

Just using the word "priest" has no more influence on me than ... lets say...  "Sinner saved by grace".  They are the same.

Invite the Pope if you think you'd like, I will still hold fast to the word.  No man makes me "shake" in light of the word.

John 1:1

Hold the hostilities Kensington, it's good to have men of faith here, no matter what their rank and position.  He is my friend, treat him as you would any other of my friends please.  He'll have insight to share with us, I for one am grateful for having known him and grateful he can find the time to join  us here, I didn't even point him to any specific thread, just the site in general and explained to him that we are a melting pot of Christian religions, he and "us" have just as much of a right to be here and voice our views as any other believer, and it's not fair that you decide to remain hostile about the situation, much less towards someone you have never even met or dialogged with.

He also used to be protestant just fyi, and things like hearing of his experiences with his missionary work will be great to hear as well, it's not too often we have people doing Gods work in real time like this.

kensington

You said you invited him here to help enlighten us.  Whatever.  I will treat him as anyone who wants to discuss the WORD, and not try to indoctrinate me with false religion practices that are not in the Bible.  It's not your friends I am concerned about. It is who are "Christ's" friends.

My point is, just because someone is called "priest" by any religion does not give them rank whatsoever in the body of Christ by "THE WORD"... Jesus is NO respector of persons.

You never said you invited him to the site... you said you invited him to join this discussion.  I'm good with that.. but Priest or no priest... Mary is not the queen of Heaven or My mother.

I am not hostile, I said it was confusing... or a quandry... I was honest about that. I often see Catholics whip out that term, "priest" or "nun" as something we are all supposed to submit to. They are servants, just like the rest of us, no more, no less, no rank, no position. If you believe that, then that is where the hostility will come from. Not me, I know he doesn't "outrank" me in the body.

You are right, He is perfectly welcome to post here.  We all are. But, that won't make him the authority or the bottom line on who Mary is for any of us. He will just be a poster.  That was my point. Why didn't you just invite him, or tell us your friend was coming... rather than telling us the "priest" was coming?

See... that gets me every time. My sil tries that.  It just doesn't work for me. I don't call them father, I speak to them as anyone else who is saved by grace.  Just another sojourner in the body of Christ... walking along. If that offends you, I don't know what to tell you. But, it appears already you try to set the "rank" stage on us with the term "priest".

kensington

it's good to have men of faith here,

BTW.. what do you think that makes the other men who post here daily?  You are bringing the priest, and the rest of them are WHAT?

Aren't they all, the saved brothers in the LORD, Kings, saints and priests?

At what point is it that a catholic priest is a "man of faith" and the others are just "men"?

On behalf of all of my brothers in the LORD here ... I see through that.  ::geek::

kensington

BTW... you may not like my attitude, and you may find it hostile. I believe it is justified.

Afterall, it is no secret that the OP of this topic and many others came here a short time ago... and the purpose was to indoctrinate, convert and to make catholics... not to just talk or discuss with other believers.  That is something that makes me hostile.  It was an attack from the beginning but not on catholics or the person, it was on the rest of us that we all need to be "different" believers.  Catholics.

Most people just ignore it, and move along... I just don't like it.   I'm flat tired of being told by Catholics that my faith is not good enough faith. And my salvation in Jesus Christ is not complete. And that I have to do more than be forgiven, washed in the blood of the LAMB for my sins. But, not so tired I'll shut up.

You know how the saying goes..."I'll do anything for LOVE, but I WON'T do that"   ::frown::  Nothing personal.

kensington

Oh my... I want to share an epiphany... To those who have ears...

I know that Mary is not part of the Godhead, or salvation, or a queen of heaven or any of the things that she is lifted up as in the Catholic church. She is but a servant, a sister in the LORD to the rest of us. ..

In the word, where God or Jesus is spoken of... and including the Holy Spirit... they always used "He" with the capitol "H"..

But, not that I can find is there this used when Mary is referenced. I'm sure that the Apostles would not have missed this detail concerning a "Queen Mother" if there was one. Nor would the men in the body who duly translate from the Original to English. They just wouldn't have. Were she to be this person of honor in the earth and the heavens they preach she is... it would be clear in the Bible, in the simple written word.

Yes, I know... such a simple thing, but I am reminded of it nonetheless.  ::tippinghat::

John 1:1

The difference between you and I and a priest or nun, they have dedicated their entire lives to God on all levels to more extreem lengths then us as part of their life over to him in all they do, so yeah, I will give them more respect because they deserve it.  You should see what it takes to become a priest, it's not an easy task at all and most people would never be up to that task.  Michael, the other priest friend I know, him and I used to dialog on a very regular basis as he became one, I was enlightened greatly about the process and I have a new found respect for what they have to endure because of that.  This is stuff they don't detail out for all of us to know, like it's some prize or goal they accompolish, it's just the fact is, I know a little more along these areas specifically and personally that's all.

I'm still not liking the tone you take here, it's not like I"m telling you I am in disagreement with your denomination, that it too is also following a false doctrin because it has it's own rules and regulations, because every single one does without a single exception.  It's part of what makes them stand out as seperate denominations if anything else, and I personally enjoy the diversity of it all since it gives us choices.  So, you don't like one particular denomination because it doesn't rub well with you, go find another, don't put down the one you left because it didn't happen to agree with you personally.  I also think it's abhorent for anybody to put down any other denomination on any level for any reason, as long as it's following the true gospel, it is the same church, the same body IMSO "s for strong".  It also creates division to take this stance, it makes us look horrible in God's eyes fighting among each other over it, and it makes us look bad to the world of potential believers, and infact, helps to reinforce the enemies false stance by using the words and actions we do to each other, who are supposed to be believers, against us.

I will reinterate here, yet again, I was raised Catholic, I believe all denominations are part of the same church and I enjoy fellowship with all of them, so don't label me either direction, for I am both at this point.

BULL... malarky... fantasy...  My life 24/7 is for the LORD. I am consecrated unto the LORD. My home is as an altar to God. I teach the WORD in my goings in, and my goings out, my lying down and my raising up. It is ever on my mouth, and on my doorstops...  I pray without ceasing, for this is the will of God.

I knew this was coming... and it is false doctrine to be sure.  Every time I hear it, I just want to laugh.  rofl Living freely off of the offerings of others wearing perfectly white robes that someone else laundered while you hold your hands up and swing an insense lamp makes you no more of a servant than me or anyone else.

And you know what... most nuns and priests committed as much sin as I did BEFORE they decided to put on robes... saved by grace is just that. Don't even try that on me. That is where the rubber meets the road. And most of them have had it easy compared to where I have walked in my faith. Give me a break. WHERE do you people come up with that?

My husband who has served in the military has more dedication on a deeper level to the LORD than most of the nuns and priests I have met. And yes... I know more than a few, want I should introduce you?

"I was enlightened greatly about the process and I have a new found respect for what they have to endure because of that."

Been there, done that, my husband was going to Seminary to be a priest when I met him.  I told you... Jesus is NO respecter of persons.  Acts 10:34

btw.. I'm not saying they do not love the LORD. But, when you set them above other servants of God... you are in error. Bottom line.

My cousins son is in and out of a coma from a car accident for more than a month now. You can't tell me they know more about sacrifice than she. Sorry.  My sil buried her husband at the age of 36 with 6 children at her side... you can't touch that. My son is deployed to the middle east right now, I'm not buying it.

Okay... I gotta stop playing with you kids now.   ::smacking::

I have to go anoint the boys, clean their robes, iron their sheets, pray for them all night long, prepare their word for tomorrow, trim their wicks, teach them to circumcize their hearts, fill their lamps... you get the idea. I am the Queen Mother around here. The "priest" of the home is stationed elsewhere for now, and it is up to me to be on the wall ever watchful for the enemy of their souls...

While everyone else is at mass. Good night.  ::sleepingsoundly::

I see you got busy after I had to leave my computer. Please do not ascribe motivations to me. You do not know me. I have two goals: To share my faith, and to dispell some of the horrible lies people tell about that faith. I am not here to convert. I am here to seek and offer understanding. It is good to debate in charity, but you can not debate if you first do not properly understand what the other person believe. And I have seen some of the most horrible, outlandish things said about the Church at this website.

As far as the OP goes, read it again. It is a simple statement of love and prayer. Yet it caused a firestorm of ant-Catholic slurs. Who is the one who is more Christian: The one who wishes to share and understand, or the one who maligns his/her brother?

I will repeat what I said:
I love my Jewish mother, who my Lord and Savior gave to me:

John 19:26-27: When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.

I am the disciple Jesus loves - we all are. Do we take our mother into our home? I know my mother prays for me when I ask her to. Do you know she loves you and prays for you too?

So mocking us is what you learn from your Bible?

The one who wishes to share and understand, or the one who maligns his/her brother?

I'm sorry... Now which one are you again?  Because I could go back and cut and paste the many snips and snipes you have offered up to those who don't agree with you also.
