A graduate of Abilene Christian University, Cecil served as a teacher and preacher in Texas, Louisiana, and New Mexico over the course of more than five decades. Following his retirement he captured pieces of his life of learning, observations, and teaching into a collection of books and essays. It may be that his post-retirement years impacted even more people for good than did his many years of teaching and preaching. Cecil and his wife, Elma Lea Holladay Hook, had two children, and five grandchildren.
