Student Suspended for Saying “Bless You” to Sneezing Classmate

A High School student at Dyer County High School in Tennessee was recently suspended because she chose to say “Bless You” when a classmate of hers sneezed.

Speaking of her teacher, senior Kendra Turner said, “She said that we’re not going to have godly speaking in her class and that’s when I said we have a constitutional right,” the student said.

Turner said the teacher sent her to the administrators, where she was forced to finish the class in in-school suspension (ISS).

Her classmates sent the local news station, WMC Action News 5, a picture of the teacher’s white board, which lists “bless you” and other expressions that are banned as part of the class room’s rules.

Kendra’s Pastor also spoke to the local news about the issue because she’s been approached by several students who happen to have the same teacher.

“There were several students that were talking about this particular faculty member there that was very demeaning to them in regard to their faith,” the youth pastor said.

As a final comment on the event, Turner said:

“It’s alright to defend God and it’s our constitutional right because we have a freedom of religion and freedom of speech.”
