Trump

The Triumph of Common Sense!

It wasn’t really about Donald Trump. In Trump, “the little people” found their voice.

Along with the economy, immigration, and abortion, exit polls said “democracy” was a key issue. Democracy? You mean concerns about fascism and tyranny? Or maybe a January 6th repeat?

Quite to the contrary, what we saw in the Red Wave was democracy at its finest and purest!

The message coming from voting booths all across America was simply: Enough! Enough of the mindless overspending that causes inflation and spiraling grocery prices! Enough of the nanny-state regulations that hurt small businesses! Enough of the idiocy of sanctuary cities! Enough of liberal prosecutors decriminalizing shoplifting! Enough of defunding the police! Enough of sidewalks in beautiful cities being turned into drug-infested havens for the homeless! Enough of crime in the streets and the killing of our young! Enough of pitting race against race!

Enough of universities allowing blatant antisemitism, and students dictating how university funds are invested! Enough of universities brainwashing students with critical race and gender theory! Enough of sanctimonious and hypocritical calls for “diversity, equity, and inclusion”!

Enough of interfering with parents raising their own children! Enough of filling young minds with talk about sex of every kind! Enough of drag queens in classrooms and libraries! Enough of secretly encouraging kids to transition without informing their parents! Enough of requiring teachers to call students whatever gender (or animal!) they have chosen to be! Enough, already!

For all the finger-pointing in the Democrats’ blame game, what lost the election for Harris had little to do with Biden’s reluctance to step down, or Harris’ VP pick, or her “play-it-safe” media strategy. As it turned out, the elections were a referendum on the elitist ideology behind the Democrats’ “progressivism.” And in this clash of classes, “the little people” won! If you’re looking for a fitting anthem, it’s Aaron Copland’s stirring “Fanfare for the Common Man.”

In retrospect, the Republican sweep is no mystery. It wasn’t that millions of voters were enthusiastically voting for Trump, as Trump; or even as “the lesser of two evils.” (I’m no fan of Donald Trump. Between his reproachable character and Harris’ godless policies, there would have been good reason not to vote for either candidate.)

In the end, it was a victory for the common sense of the common man! Given his flaws, common sense trumped even Trump!

Common sense tells you that if the government spends more than it has, families have to spend more than they have. Common sense says that huge problems are created when immigrants can enter the country illegally. Common sense tells you that gender is biological, and that it’s fundamentally unfair for men to compete in women’s sports. Common sense says “reproductive rights” has lost its mind when it’s “a baby” if you want it, but “not a baby” if you don’t!

The mystery, really, is why so many “smarty pants” politicians, academics, media pundits, and celebrities have so very little common sense. “Progressive” ideology hasn’t produced progress, only fools.

As for Trump, there may yet be buyer’s remorse. Buckle your seat belts! But, Trump or no Trump, in this shock landslide we have at long last witnessed the triumph of rational common sense over irrational, elitist nonsense—unmissably highlighted in red!
