Hundreds of Muslims took part in coordinated mass demonstrations across Pakistan, chanting and holding banners, as they called for the hanging death of Asia Bibi, 50.
These demonstrations come after the mother-of-two had her seven years on death row extended after a judge refused to hear her final appeal. Mrs. Bibi has been on death row in Punjam since she was accused of blasphemy for getting into a disagreement with a Muslim woman seven years ago.
Mukhtar, one of many protesters in Lahore, said: “It will be a war if accursed Asia escapes. We are united to guard the honor of Rasool Allah, we are His servants.
“Was Pakistan formed to hang the lovers and spare blasphemers. Why is Asia Bibi not hanged even after the death sentence by Lahore High Court and Supreme Court?”
He added: “The government will pay if it acts on foreign agenda and betrays us.”
Mrs. Bibi was charged with “blasphemy” in 2010 after muslim women saw her working in a field and made a public outcry about having to drink water from the same river as Mrs. Bibi because she was a Christian. They later told police that Bibi had insulted the Muslim Prophet Mohammad. The crime, blasphemy, is punishable by death in Pakistan.
